Slovak hoteliers saw a double-digit year-on-year increase in the number of guests this June, but they still fell short of reaching the pre-Covid level by 11 per cent. The Slovak Statistical Office informed the Czech News Agency. Epidemic restrictions during the country's earlier strong waves of coronavirus outbreaks also significantly affected tourism.

 

Nearly 543,000 people stayed in Slovakia in June 2023, an increase of almost 11 percent year-on-year. But at the same time, coincidentally also by 11 per cent, the number of guests in hotels and other accommodation facilities fell short of June's tourist record in 2019, when the country had not yet faced an epidemic of the covid-19 disease.

 

For the entire first half of the year, Slovak hoteliers recorded about 2.6 million guests. Year-on-year, this is an increase of one-third, while compared to the first half of 2019, it is a decrease of one-tenth. The number of foreign visitors to Slovakia increased significantly.

 

Tourism in Slovakia was one of the sectors most affected by the impact of the coronavirus outbreak and epidemic restrictions. The country applied them mainly during the earlier strong waves of covid-19, when, for example, hoteliers were not allowed to accommodate tourists and Bratislava also introduced restrictions on travel to the country at that time.
